About garden soil
Garden soil is a planting-focused blend, usually richer than plain topsoil, intended for beds where you're growing vegetables, annuals or perennials.
Blend composition varies between local suppliers. Tell us the application and we'll confirm which blend is available when we quote.
Common uses for garden soil

Garden Soil for homeowners and contractors
Small Load Co. delivers garden soil to residential properties and to active jobsites. Homeowners generally want a single manageable pile placed somewhere sensible; contractors generally want the material on site without sending someone to the supplier.
- Home gardeners building or refilling beds
- Community garden groups
- Landscapers installing planting areas
Typical quantities
- A 4×8 raised bed at 12 inches deep needs roughly 1.2 cubic yards
- Annual top-up of existing beds: often under 1 cubic yard
Delivery considerations
- Tell us if the beds are in a back yard — placement affects how far you'll be wheeling it.
- Order slightly more than the bare calculation; soil settles.
Is garden soil a good fit for a small load?
Yes — garden soil is one of the materials small-load delivery exists for. If your project needs less than a full truckload, or your driveway can't take a full-size truck, a small load is usually the practical option.
How much garden soil will you need?
Measure the area, then estimate the volume before you order.
Frequently asked questions
- What counts as a small load?
- A small load is anything under 4 tons. In practice that covers most residential and small-jobsite orders: a few cubic yards of bulk material, or a manageable stack of eligible building materials. Because weight is the limit, dense materials such as wet gravel or sand reach 4 tons in fewer yards than light materials such as mulch.
- Do you remove junk or haul away debris?
- No. Small Load Co. is a delivery service, not a junk removal company. We bring materials to your property or jobsite.
